Work as you choose so others can live as they choose
How to get started working for yourself as Caregiver
Our Case Managers are always working to refer Caregivers to our clients. Caregivers help ensure that Seniors and Persons with Disabilities can continue to live independently by assisting with tasks around the home, whether they be chores or ambulatory care and everything in between. Caregivers are employed by their clients, paid by either the client or In Home Support Services (IHSS,) and in high demand. If you want to start helping others live as they choose, this page has all the resources you need to get started. If you're already working as a PCA and want referrals, we encourage to apply for referrals through our case managers. If approved, we'll sit down for a brief interview and start sending you clients.
What you can expect working as a Caregiver
Caregivers are able to set their own hours and decide who they're willing to work with. You're paid either directly by the client, or through In Home Support Services. With each client you take on you can expect to develop meaningful relationships with whoever you work with in the interest of maintaining their independence.
Flexible Work Arrangements
One of the notable features of working as a private pay personal care attendant in Alameda County is the flexibility in work arrangements. Clients often engage attendants on a part-time or full-time basis, depending on their specific needs. This flexibility allows caregivers to balance work with personal commitments and create a schedule that suits both parties.
Subsidized Housing
Another notable feature is the opportunity for caregivers to live in the client’s home. Housing can sometimes be provided as part of the role, helping reduce living expenses while building a consistent, supportive care relationship. These live-in arrangements vary by client, but they often create a more stable schedule and a deeper connection.
Building Relationships
Unlike institutional healthcare settings, private pay Caregivers have the opportunity to build deep and meaningful relationships with their clients. The nature of one-on-one care fosters trust and understanding, creating a supportive environment for individuals to maintain their independence. The emotional connection formed between the caregiver and client is often as important as the physical assistance provided.
Job Responsibilities
As private pay Caregivers in Alameda County, professionals in this field undertake a variety of responsibilities tailored to the unique needs of their clients. These responsibilities often include assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility. Additionally, attendants may assist with meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, and companionship.
Transferring, ambulating, and mobility
Caregivers provide hands-on assistance to help clients safely move, walk, change positions, and use mobility aids, reducing the risk of falls and supporting independence.
