The July Update

Happy July, Friends of Easy Does It.

We could not be happier with the turnout for our 30th anniversary celebration! The anniversary barbecue event was also a treat for our staff, as we honored 30 years of empowering our clients to live as they choose. We were also thrilled last week to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the ADA with the CIL, and are looking forward to celebrating with CRIL, Ability Now! And the North Berkeley Senior Center in the weeks to come.

Thanks for Celebrating our 30th Anniversary with us

A huge thank you to everyone who turned out to celebrate our 30th Anniversary at Easy Does it Day 2025: Three Decades of Dedication. Although implementing the event ourselves proved to be a challenge, we were able to serve a meal so exceptional and live entertainment so enjoyable that there was not even time for offering the Jeopardy game. Our Team had an incredible time celebrating with you all. Thanks to the efforts of Elly, a cinematographer producing a documentary about our work, we will have quite a video in the works to remember the occasion. Therefore, keep an eye on our social media for when the EDI After Movie arrives in the coming weeks.

Welcome to Easy Does It’s Annual Re-Registration

July means that it is once again time for the re-registration of all our clients. Our funders at the City of Berkeley require us to collect up to date information on all our clients at the start of each Fiscal Year. We have sent out an e-mail and paper mailing to all clients explaining what to expect in the next Fiscal Year with Easy Does It. Except for rare instances, we are required to provide only statistical data, not individual information. We make every effort to keep your information confidential.

Up Next, CRIL’s ADA Anniversary Celebration

Celebrating Disability Pride and the 35th ADA Anniversary.” Location: Ed Roberts Campus, Outdoor Grounds on Adeline St. The background features a bold color split from blue to white to blue.

On July 25th we will be joining Community Resources for Independent Living in Hayward for their annual ADA Anniversary Celebration. Each year, CRIL puts together an exceptional meal and resource fair for the community they serve. We will be there to connect Hayward Residents with our Wheelchair Rescue service, which offers Free Roadside Repairs to stranded power wheelchair and scooter users throughout northern Alameda County, as well as to celebrate the ADA Anniversary with their community partners. We look forward to seeing you there.

Shortly after CRIL’s annual ADA celebration, we will have multiple Summer Fun Festivals with our friends at the North Berkeley Senior Center and Ability Now! We are thrilled to be able to celebrate the summer season with them as well as to connect their clients with our safety net services and especially our Wheelchair Rescue program.

30 Years of June Outreach

Easy Does it Day is not the only reason June is our busiest month in terms of Outreach. This year, we were invited to more events than our team could table. But we were thrilled to take part in multiple Resource Fairs and Celebrations where we could continue to get the word out about our affordable safety net services, which help seniors and persons with disabilities to live independently in their own homes. We tabled multiple Oakland Housing Authority events in order to promote our Wheelchair Rescue, as well as at USOAC’s annual convention and Berkeley’s annual Juneteenth Festival. We have many more community events to table in July for our 31rst year of empowering our community to live as they choose.

Reclaiming our Legacy with The Center for Independent Living

Our first big event of the month was an exceptional celebration put together by our friends at The Center for Independent Living. They partnered with a multitude of organizations to honor Disability Pride Month and the 35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Our staff enjoyed hearing their inspiring lineup of guest speakers and connecting with the many people who attended.

Grand Reopening of West Berkeley Family Wellness Center

Friday, June 27 from 12pm to 3pm

Join us as we celebrate the grand reopening of the newly renovated West Berkeley Family Wellness Center. Bring the whole family for a fun and informative day filled with activities, local resources, healthy treats, and a first look at our upgraded facilities.

Event highlights include face painting, henna, smoothie bike, free blood pressure screenings, healthy snacks and giveaways, a local food truck, public health resources, and a guided tour of the new facility.

Celebrate Plastic Free July at the Ecology Center Store

Ecology Center is gearing up for one of their favorite months of the year: Plastic Free July! To celebrate, they will be giving out a storewide 15% discount all month long. Whether you are just beginning your low-waste journey or looking to restock your eco-essentials, there is no better time to switch to Ecology Center’s sustainable alternatives to everyday products. Like their bulk refill section, which lets you use your own containers to purchase and store essential cleaning products.

That is all there is to share with you for the month of July. We had a wonderful time celebrating our 30th anniversary with you all and immensely enjoyed the many events we tabled in June; and now that we are in our 31st fiscal year of serving seniors and persons with disabilities, we are looking forward to many more. Until next month, take it easy.
