The September Update
Welcome to September, friends of Easy Does It, here is everything we want to share for the month.
We are extremely excited to announce that thanks to The Alameda County Transportation Commission (ACTC), we can now do even more for users of our Wheelchair Rescue Program. We are gearing up for our last event of the summer and have even more events planned in the fall. Finally, our second Community Meeting of the year is taking place on October 23, and we encourage you to attend to provide feedback on the quality of our services.
The ACTC just made free Wheelchair Rescue even better
Thanks to the Alameda County Transportation Commission, we are now able to do even more with our Wheelchair Rescue (FASTER) Program. Easy Does It is now able to offer wheelchair repairs and a loaner chair to users of our FASTER services if we are unable to fix your equipment on the spot. This means that if your power chair breaks down while you are out and about, we’ll be able to repair it with minimal interruptions to your day-to-day life. All done free of charge of course. A huge thank you to the folks at the ACTC for continuing to empower us to better serve our clients.
See you at The Healthy Living Festival
We are finishing the Summer of Outreach strong at the United Seniors of Oakland and Alameda County’s (USOAC) Healthy Living Festival! Made possible by Supervisor Nate Miley, The Healthy Living Festival sets the standard for resource fairs, and we could not be more excited to attend this incredible event once again. Complimentary transportation to the Oakland Zoo is provided to Alameda County seniors so that they can spend the morning learning about the wealth of resources available to them and the afternoon at The Oakland Zoo free of charge. We will be there to connect seniors with our vital safety net services, and the last of our free merch for the Summer.
Our EventsEmeryville’s Harvest Festival
Despite the Summer of Outreach ending, we still have events planned before we head into the Holidays. With Easy Does It now able to offer Wheelchair Repair in Emeryville, we are looking forward to tabling at our first Emeryville event. The Harvest Festival is a time to enjoy the bountiful harvest of the season with music, food, and activities for the whole family. We will be there to connect Emeryville residents with our wheelchair repair services and free wheelchair rescue rides.
Our EventsAlameda County’s Emergency Preparedness Day
While tabling at the Emeryville Harvest Festival, our team will also be tabling at Alameda County’s Emergency Preparedness Day. As a Berkeley Ready CRC, Easy Does It is committed to ensuring that our agency can remain open and available to the community in the event of a natural disaster. This year, Berkeley Ready! is focusing on what to do in the event of a loss of power, and we will be there to offer tips on how to keep your power chairs and other medical equipment charged and ready for use in the event of a power outage.
Our EventsOur Second Community Meeting of 2024
Finally, our second Community Meeting of the year is taking place on October 23. Our Bi-Annual Community Meeting’s allow our clients to comment on how the quality of our service has impacted them. We have grown a lot as an agency over the past year, but that does not mean there is no room for improvement, and we strongly encourage you to join us on Zoom with any feedback you may have. We will also be sharing updates on our recent expansion of Wheelchair Repair to Emeryville, and improvements to our FASTER contract. We will also talk about the status of development on the Easy Does It Caregiver Network, which we hope will make it easier to find quality caregivers in Berkeley. Registration is not required to attend, but you can visit our website and add the zoom Bi-Annual Community Meeting to your calendar. Be sure you do not miss it!
View Event PageTabling both Cal's DSP Resource Fair and Ability Now's! Annual Luao
Our Team was presented with a new challenge in August. We were invited to both UC Berkeley's Annual Resource Fair and Ability Now's Annual Luau. Unable to choose between the two, we opted to make sure we were at both. While our Repair Technicians Levan and Rodney offered free tune-ups to Ability Now's attendees, Trevor left for the DPS's Resource fair to join our Executive Director as well as our Board Secretary, Bruce and Larry at the event. It was a very busy day, but we were able to connect new college students with our safety net services while ensuring those who already knew about them got the repairs they needed to remain independent.
We had a great time at the Solano Stroll
Our Team had an incredible time tabling once more at The Solano Stroll. We were thrilled to be able to connect Albany residents with our Wheelchair Rescue Program, which is now able to offer additional wheelchair repair services and a loaner chair to ensure that if a wheelchair user’s equipment breaks down while they are out and about, we can get them mobile again.
Thanks to The Berkeley Film Foundation for Supporting our Documentary, “As You Choose”
With filming for our upcoming documentary almost finished, it is time for us to find a talented Editor to effectively organize the story captured by the amazing filmmakers who have recorded so many aspects of our work. This would not be possible without a generous grant from the Berkeley Film Foundation. Thanks to their support, we now have all the resources we need to finish production and begin submitting “As You Choose” to film festivals.
