The September Update
News Post

Hello again, friends of Easy Does It! Here is everything new in September:
Our team has been bustling this month; we are excited to welcome new clients from Oakland to our affordable wheelchair repair program. Despite the increased demand for service, we’ve been able to attend more events to spread the word and have even more planned. Our second community meeting for 2023 is approaching on October 17, our Board of Directors is seeking new applicants, Bruce Curtis is here to stay as our new Executive Director, and we’ll change our live-streaming of wheelchair repair.
Our Second Hybrid Community Meeting of 2023

Every six months, we host community meetings to hear how the quality of our service is impacting you. The next meeting is scheduled for October 17; we’ll once again be hosting it in the Koret Boardroom at the Ed Roberts Campus. This time, our in-person attendees will receive free food and EDI merchandise. We’ll also offer the option to attend remotely via Teams or livestream the event without registering. We hope to see you then.
Register to AtttendBruce Curtis is Now Our Permanent Executive Director
We are pleased to announce that Bruce Curtis has been made our permanent Executive Director. Under Bruce’s leadership as Interim Executive Director, we have modernized our operations and expanded our wheelchair repair program to City of Oakland residents. The Board and staff are greatly pleased with the direction Bruce is taking our agency and his fierce dedication to the work that we do. We’re looking forward to many more successes with him at the helm.
Seeking New Board Members
Easy Does It is seeking volunteers to serve on our Board of Directors. Our Board is vital in overseeing our operations and holding the EDI team accountable. Although not a paid role, the work of each board member is essential to ensuring that seniors and people with disabilities can continue to receive quality, affordable care, which enables them to live in their homes. If interested, we’re currently accepting applications on our website. We are especially interested in those individuals with disabilities who have experience in finance/budgets or a legal background or who can represent ethnic minority communities.
Become a Board MemberEasy Does It at the Healthy Living Festival

This Thursday September 28, starting at 9 AM until 2 PM, Easy Does It will be tabling at the USOAC’s Healthy Living Festival at the Oakland Zoo, an event dedicated to connecting Alameda County Seniors with agencies that help them to live independently. Participants will receive a free lunch and have access to free family-friendly activities. We’re one of 75 vendors at the event this year, and we hope to see you there.
Easy Does It at the Berkeley Senior Centers Senior Day

We had a great time representing Easy Does It at the Berkeley Senior Centers Senior Day Celebration, an afternoon filled with free food and fun activities to honor Berkeley’s Senior Citizens. We were there to hand out free EDI merchandise and snacks and to connect seniors with our suite of Safety Net Services, which helps them to live independently. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with the Berkeley Senior Centers and to participate in the wealth of activities they offer their clients.
Putting a Pause on Live Repair Workshops
Unfortunately, we will have to pause our online wheelchair repair workshops temporarily. During our last stream, some major technical issues with our streaming rig prevented us from staying live for the entire hour, and the stream interfered with the many repair jobs our techs are currently tasked with.
We’ll continue to produce Wheelchair Repair Tutorials that we feel will benefit the community we serve and hope to bring back the live stream in 2024 when we’re all a little more accustomed to being on camera. We want to give a huge thanks to everyone who tuned in to show their support.
That’s all we have for you in September! It’s been yet another busy month with many more to come. We’re all quite proud to be able to continue to provide our clients with vital safety net services, which empowers them to live independently. We hope to see you all at our upcoming Community Meeting on October 17 at 5:30 PM at the Ed Roberts Campus or through our zoom live stream.
