Act Now: Protect Healthcare and Essential Services!
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the House of Representatives Rules Committee began the mark-up of the House Reconciliation Bill, refining its provisions after extensive deliberation. As discussions stretched late into the night, lawmakers met with the President to reach a consensus on key elements of the bill. Once the meeting concluded, the committee finalized its revisions, and the bill proceeded to the House floor for a vote at 1:00 a.m. on Thursday.

This legislation carries staggering consequences. The final bill includes an estimated $715 billion in Medicaid cuts, which the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) warns could leave over 8 million people without healthcare coverage. When combined with the expected loss of healthcare due to cuts to Affordable Care Act provisions, the number of uninsured individuals could reach 13.7 million nationwide.
Additionally, the bill accelerates the implementation of work reporting and job loss penalties—moving the start date up from 2029 to December 2026. It also includes $300 billion in cuts to SNAP benefits, threatening vital food assistance programs for millions of people.
The House passed the bill overnight—by a single vote. Now, the battle moves to the Senate.
Medicare and SNAP are more than just healthcare programs—they represent dignity, opportunity, and survival for countless individuals, including seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income families. These cuts would force many to face insurmountable barriers to accessing the care they need, leaving vulnerable members of our communities to fend for themselves without adequate support.
We believe these cuts are not just a policy misstep, but a failure to prioritize the health and safety of those most in need. As advocates for equity and emergency services, we are asking for your help to amplify the voices of those affected.
Your voice matters.
Contact your Senators and urge them to stand against these harmful provisions. Healthcare and essential services must remain accessible to all—especially for disabled individuals, older adults, and low-income communities.
Sample Script
"I oppose the Medicaid and SNAP cuts and work reporting requirements in the Reconciliation bill. These provisions will take healthcare away from millions and especially harm disabled people, older adults, and low-income communities."
If Medicaid or Medi-Cal has positively impacted your life, we encourage you to share your story with your Senators. Your experiences can illustrate why preserving these programs is not an option—it’s a necessity.
